Eric Juhola is a queer filmmaker, producer, executive producer, and educator. He is currently producing and directing THE QUEER BEAT, a feature documentary exploring the evolution of queer journalism, supported by NBCU’s Original Voices Fellowship and NYSCA. Additionally, Eric is Executive Producing MORE THAN A NAME, a longitudinal documentary about a filmmaker’s journey to understand her adopted son’s transgender identity, backed by The Center for Asian American Media (CAAM).
Eric’s previous work includes the Netflix feature documentary GROWING UP COY, a poignant exploration of a transgender 6-year-old’s civil rights case, which garnered international recognition and awards. He also produced OFF THE GRID: LIFE ON THE MESA, earning a Gotham award nomination and multiple festival accolades, and BROKEN HEART LAND, an ITVS/PBS documentary featured on America ReFramed.
Starting his career with Barbara Walters at ABC, Eric has produced and directed content for Discovery Channel, HGTV, TLC, TruTV, WEtv, and MTV, and directed the fiction film NOWHERE KIDS (Tribeca Film Festival). His work has been featured at major film festivals like Tribeca, Frameline, Raindance, and Mix Brasil, and covered in the New York Times, Guardian, OUT, Variety, and more.
Eric currently teaches visual storytelling with NYU’s Open Arts program at Tisch School of the Arts and is pursuing an MFA in integrated media arts at Hunter College.
